President Yangsheng Xu Elected to the US National Academy of Engineering
On February 9, 2021, the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) announced its election of 106 new members and 23 international members. Professor Yangsheng Xu, president of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, was elected as an international member for his outstanding contributions in space robotics and autonomous systems.
Professor Xu's research interests include robotics, intelligent systems and artificial intelligence. He has been interested in space robotics, service robotics, robot language, wearable interface, intelligent vehicles and self-learning systems. He has published 6 books and over 300 papers in international journals in these areas. He is Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Fellow of International Academy of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Academician of International Eurasian Academy of Sciences, Fellow of Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Science, and Fellow of EU Academy of Sciences. In 2016, the Committee for Small-Body Nomenclature of the International Astronomical Union named the No. 59425 minor planet 1999 GJ5 as Xu Yangsheng Star. In 2020, Professor Yangsheng Xu was listed on the 40 Innovative Entrepreneurs who have made distinguished contribution to the Shenzhen’s 40-year Development.
